Gangaur Festival of Rajasthan is honoring the Lord Shiva and his wife goddess Gauri (Parvati). The festival is centered around women and is a celebration of spring, harvest and marital fidelity.  The unmarried women worship Parvati and Shiva for being blessed with a good husband, married women for health and long life of their husbands and for a happy married life. The statues of Parvati and Lord Shiva are dressed in new clothes especially made for this occasion. Unmarried and married women decorate the figures and make them look lifelike. The key moment of the celebration which last for a few days is a procession where images of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati are accompanied by camels, horses and elephants. The procession is symbolic of return of Gauri to her husband’s home. In Udaipur, there’s as well a boat procession on Lake Pichola, and fireworks.
